Direct Fired Water Heating
Larger and older properties frequently utilize a steam boiler and external steam to water heat exchanger for the production of domestic/process hot water. This double heat transfer process results in reduced fuel to hot water conversion efficiency. Replacing dual heat transfer designs with energy efficient direct fired water heaters can reduce fuel consumption up to 30%.

High Efficiency Boiler Upgrade
Antiquated water heating and boiler systems operate in the 60% to 80% overall efficiency range. Upgrading boiler equipment to the 85% to 98% high efficiency range will produce equivalent savings.

Boiler System Heat Recovery
Application of flue gas heat recovery and/or condensate heat recovery for steam and hot water boilers generally in excess of 1,000 MBH will result in annual fuel savings of 5% to 15%. Recovered heat may be used for preheating boiler feed water or used for other processes.

Fuel Conversion
Properties utilizing city steam or electricity to generate hot water or heat provide excellent opportunities for utility reduction through conversion to direct fired systems burning natural gas, liquid petroleum or oil. Electrical conversion to fossil fuel can reduce utility cost for DHW generation up to 50% of existing costs. City steam to fossil fuel fired boiler conversion may also yield saving up to 50% of existing utility cost.

VFD Pumping
Incorporating variable frequency drive technology on domestic booster pumping and chilled water pumping applications, results in significant reduction of electrical consumption. VFD retrofit or new system installation employing this technology frequently results in a payback of less than one year.

EMS Controllers
Point of use Energy Management products are designed to monitor and control individual system performance to reduce operational costs. Water Softening programmable logic regeneration controllers reduce salt consumption. Domestic water heating programmable logic regeneration controllers modulate system temperature based on usage patterns. Hydronic heating PLC staging controls incrementally fire heating boiler modules providing optimal fuel utilization

Water Softening
Scale build up on heating surfaces diminishes efficiency, increases energy consumption, increases heat exchanger maintenance and promotes premature equipment failures. Removing calcium from hard water prior to it being heated alleviates precipitation onto the interior surfaces of boilers, heat exchangers and piping systems. Water softening may be the best way to maintain fuel efficiencies and reduce future energy costs
